Abstract

Avocado leaves (Persea americana, Mill) and papaya seeds (Carica papaya L.) can be used as diuretics agents. This research aimed to determine the diuretic activity of administration of avocado leaf extract and papaya seeds to Wistar male rats. And to find out the most effective dose of the combination group on male white Wistar rats. This study used the lipschitz 1943 method by measuring urine volume in a period of 8 hours. The tested animal used consisted of 35 rats, divided into 7 treatment groups: 0.5% CMC negative control, hydrochlorothiazide positive control, avocado leaf extract 20 mg / 200 g BB, papaya seed extract 24.4 mg / 200 g BB, and combination of avocado leaf extract: papaya seed extract (15 mg : 6.1 mg / 200 g BB, 10 mg : 12.2 mg / 200 g BB, and 5 mg : 18.3 mg / 200 g BB). Measurement and storage of urine was done every hour for 8 hours. Diuretic effect was obtained by calculating the cumulative urine volume and AUC (Area Under the Curve). AUC is obtained from calculating urine volume over time. Data analysis used ANOVA test method and continued with LSD Post Hoc test. The results showed that papaya seeds did not have diuretic activity. So that it can be seen in the combination of avocado leaf extract: papaya seed extract does not have an effective dose but can provide a diuretic effect.
