Abstract

Depression is an emotional and mental disorder that results from abnormalities in the levels of monoamine neurotransmitters in the brain. Therapy for sufferers of depression is a drug that can improve mood or known as an antidepressant drug. Depression also causes overproduction of cortisol, which functions against the effects of insulin and causes high blood glucose levels. Noni leaf (Morinda citrifolia (L.) Merr.) Has the potential as an antidepressant that can help regulate the use of monoamine neurotransmitters in the brain. Male white mice were adapted for 1 week depressed with the 14-day forced swimming test method with a duration of 8 minutes, this treatment aims to make mice depressed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of noni leaf ethanol extract and dosage that can reduce immobility and grade time significant blood sugar in depression induced mice with a forced swim test. The results showed that the administration of ethanol extract of noni leaves with doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg / kg can reduce the time of immobility with a decrease of 49.25; 53.04; and 76.80% and a decrease in blood sugar levels of 15.04; 23,57; and 33.93% in male white mice induced by forced swimming tests. At a dose of 400 mg / kg BB is an effective dose because it has the highest ability to reduce the time of immobility and blood sugar levels in mice.
