Abstract
Dengue fever is a disease caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito that carries the virus. One solution prevents mosquito bites using mosquito repellent lotion. Mosquito repellent Lotion made with chemicals harmful to humans when used constantly so it is necessary to use the fruit of pare (Momordica Charantia L.) Pare plant is one of the natural ingredients that is suspected to be used as a mosquito repellent agent Aedes aegypti. The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of the lotion extract of pare fruit for the mosquito repellent Aedes aegypti. The method used in this research is maceration, the resulting extract is then made of lotion with a concentration of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The negative controls used are base lotion while positive control uses Antinyamuk lotion with DEET active substances. Observations were carried out with both hands alternately displayed on the mosquito for 5 minutes for each hour and performed for 6 hours. The Lotion stability test is conducted for 3 weeks on organoleptic test, homogenity, viscosity, pH, adhesiveness and coverage. The data obtained is processed by statistical analysis (ANOVA) with the method two way, so that obtained significant results from the data. The results showed that pare fruit extract can be made as a lotion, obtained the best formula is formula III with a concentration of extracts 15% and formula IV with a concentration of 20% extracts that have a good homogeneity and stability During storage. The four lotions with a variation in the concentration of pare fruit extract have the effectiveness as a reduction with the greatest protection power at 20% concentrations of 84.06%. key words: repellant activity, bitter melon extract , lotion, Aedes aegypti
