Abstract

Basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum L.) is on of the traditional plants who can use as a medication for variety of diseases like reduce pain, infection, also inflammatory. This research purpose to know the antiinflammatory effect of ethanol extract of basil leaves on male white wistar rats with induction of egg white solution also to search the effective doses ethanol extract of basil leaves as antiinflammatory. Ethanol solvent used for produce ethanol extract of basil leaves with maceration method. Antiinflammatory test method using edema formation with 5% egg white solition. Rats divided into five groups which is every groups consists of 5 rats. First group is negatif control (CMC 1%), second group is positif control (diclofenac natrium) 0,9mg/200g BW, third groups is is etahnol extract of basil leaves 500mg/200g BW, fourth group is ethanol extract of basil leaves 1000mg/200g BW and the fifth groups is ethanol extract of basil leaves 2000mg/200g BW. Udema measurement done every 1 hour for 5 hours. Then, the data of udema volume will be analyzed with ANOVA statistic method to get the percentage of antiinflammatory power. The result of research show that ethanol extract of basil leaves have a potency as antiinflammatory on male white wistar rats. The effective dose of ethanol extract of basil leaves is 2000mg/200g BW.
