Abstract

The betel leaf (Piper betle L.) is a plant that contains anti-bacterial activity causes dental caries. Diforrmulasi betel leaf extract in the preparation of toothpaste to facilitate its use in dealing with dental caries. The purpose of this study to make preparations toothpaste betel leaf extract with a combination of variations Na CMC as a binder and physical quality test of the preparation to obtain the best formula toothpaste. Toothpaste manufacturing betel leaf extract in this study using a 2% variation betel leaf extract with Na CMC as a binder with various concentrations of 2%, 2.5% and 3%. Preparations toothpaste quality tested physique includes: organolepis test, homogeneity, pH test, viscosity test, which was observed for 3 weeks. Data were statistically analyzed using analysis of varience (ANOVA) with one way used to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of Na CMC against physical quality. The results showed that increasing the number of concentrations of Na CMC as a binder effect on the increase in viscosity. Keywords: Toothpaste, Na CMC, betel leaf extract
