Abstract
Jamaican cherry (Muntingia calabura L.) contains flavonoid (quercetin) that exhibit antiangiogenesis activity and alkaloid, saponin, tannin can be disrupt the growth and development of the fetus. The aim of the research were to find out the teratogenic effects of ethanol extract of jamaican cherry leaves on skeleton abnormalities of mice fetus. This study used 4 treatment groups and each treatment used 5 repetitions. Negative control group with Na CMC 0,5 % and ethanol extract of jamaican cherry leaves dosage 100, 200, 400 mg/kgbw administered orally to mother mice during the organogenesis of 6th to 15th days of pregnancy. At 17th day of pregnancy, mice were sectioned to remove the fetus from uterine then the fetus was colored with Alcian blue-Alizarin red s and observed the fetus skeleton that had been colored. The result of the research showed that dosage of ethanol extract of cherry leaves dose at 100 mg/kgbw was not caused ossification retardation while dose at 200 and 400 mg/kgbw caused ossification retardation in cranium, costae, sternebrae, vertebrae and ekstremities. Keywords : cherry leaves, teratogenic, organogenesis, ossification.
