Abstract

Kalanchoe leaf (Kalanchoe pinnata Pers.) contains of flavonoids, saponins, and tanins allegedly play a role to the healing process of burns. The effective concentration of kalanchoe leaves ethanol extract in the healing burn of the research (Ningtiyas 2016) for 5%. The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of variations in the concentration of white vaseline and liquid paraffin (hydrocarbon ointment base) on the physical properties of ointment and burn-healing activities. Kalanchoe extract is presented in the form of an ointment with three different variations bases are formula I (white vaselin 50:50 liquid paraffin), formula II (white vaselin 70:30 liquid paraffin), formula III (white vaselin 90:10 liquid paraffin). Burn healing test using as much as 5 rabbits with five burns were injured his back with a diameter of ± 1.5 cm. The burns were applied with ointment tested twice a day and wound diameter was measured from the first day until healed. Data obtained were analyzed using Kolmogorov Sminorv and two way ANOVA. The results of this research showed variations of the base ointment affected on the physical properties and burns healing. Kalanchoe leaf Ethanol extract ointment (Kalanchoe pinnata Pers.) formula I (white vaselin 50:50 liquid paraffin) provides a faster burn healing effect than formula II and formula III.
