Abstract
Pain is unpleasant sensory feeling, can be treated with analgesics. This study aims to determine analgesic activity of koro leaf ethanol extract with 2 testing methods, determine dose of koro leaf ethanol extract which can provide the most effective analgesic activity and determine effectiveness of koro leaf ethanol extract as narcotic analgesic using tail flick method or non-narcotic analgesic using Writhing test method. Mice divided 5 groups. Control group administered Na-CMC, test group administered koro leaf etanol extract dose 65, 130 and 260 mg/kgBW and comparable group administered tramadol (Tail Flick Test) and mefenamad acid (Writhing Test). Data analyzed by Shapiro-Wilk test, Oneway ANOVA test and Post Hoc test and then Mann-Whitney test for abnormal data. Parameters observed in Tail Flick method is time needed mice to flick the tails. Results showed that extract dose 260 mg/kgBW significantly prolong the time of mice flicked the tail, but the activity not comparable with tramadol. Writhing method, parameters observed were total writhing mice. Results showed that extract dose 65, 130 and 260 mg/kgBW significantly reduced total mice writhing. The most effective dose is 130 mg/kgBW, equivalent mefenamic acid. Koro leaf ethanol extract is more effective as non-narcotic analgesics using writhing test at dose 130 mg/kgBW. Keywords: Analgesics, koro leaf (Phaseolus lunatus L.), Tail flick Test, Writhing test.
