Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease that until now still can not be cured, but it can be controlled so that no complications occur with care during his life. Patients with type 2 diabetes are found in old age (geriatrics) and often have no previous symptoms. Antidiabetic drugs such as insulin and the OHO group are the therapies used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study is to profile the use of antidiabetic drugs and the existence of the interaction of the use of antidiabetic drugs with other drugs in geriatric patients at inpatient installations Dr.Soeradji Tirtonegoro in 2017. This research is a descriptive research design. Data is retrospectively retrieved. Data retrieval is done by taking all data that meet the criteria of research that exist in the medical records of inpatients who suffer from diabetes mellitus type II in Dr. SoeradjiTirtonegoro in 2017. Data were analyzed descriptively based on interaction mechanism and level of properties. The results showed that there were 64,15% (34 patients) of 53 DM patients potentially having drug interactions. The most widely used antidiabetic drug is insulin aspart group of 58,49% (31 patients). The most frequent drug interaction occurrence was through the mechanism of pharmacokinetic drug interaction of 18,46% (12 cases). Based on the level of properties, drug interaction is the most properties at the properties level of interaction that is 78,46% (51 cases).
