Abstract
Nutmeg essential oil has antibacterial activity. The compound content of nutmeg essential oil includes sabinen, α-pinen, 2-β-pinen, myristicin, safrol, and 1-4-terpineol. This study aims to separation of the compounds contained in nutmeg essential oil by fractional distillation method reducing the pressure and antibacterial activity of oil and the fraction of nutmeg essential oil against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. In this study, the compounds separation was done by fractional distillation method at 95mmHg and 135, 155, 165, and 230ºC variation of temperature. Nutmeg essential oil and fraction results were analyzed for physical properties, chemical properties using GC-MS, and antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. Nutmeg essential oil GC-MS spectra show that it countain 25 compounds and the fractional result obtained 4 fraction with of 57.12%; 17.00%; 1.40%; and 19.68% of rendemen with different number of compound of each fraction namely 14, 15, 12, and 12 and different physical properties. The MIC and MBC for nutmeg essential oil is 10,89mm at 2.5%; fraction 1 is 10.22mm at 10%; and fraction 4 is 10.11mm at 2.5%. In conculsion the MIC and MBC of nutmeg essential oil is better that its fractions. Keywords : nutmeg essential oil, fraction of nutmeg essential oil, antibacterial
