Abstract

Kasturi mango leaves are one of the leaves that are used as natural antidiabetic because they contain chemical compounds including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of Kasturi mango leaves in reducing blood glucose levels, ability to inhibit pancreatic necrosis and repair pancreatic cells in alloxan-induced mice. This study used 30 rats divided into 6 groups, consisting of normal control, diabetes control, control of comparative drugs, extract of the leaves of mango kasturi doses of 125 mg / kg BW, 250 mg/kg BW, 500 mg/kg BW. All groups were given treatment for 14 days. Day 0, day 4, day 11 and day 18 were determined blood glucose levels, on day 19 rats were dissected and their pancreatic organs were taken to make histopathological preparations. Measurement of blood glucose levels in rats using a glucometer (Dr Glucose) and histopathology of the pancreatic organs with Hematoxylin-Eosin staining. The results showed that the ethanol extract of the leaves of the mango kasturi can reduce blood glucose levels in mice. The most effective dose of ethanol extract of Kasturi mango leaves is 500 mg / kg BB and pancreatic histopathology observed based on damage scoring data expressed in picnosis, karyorexis, karololysis and percentage of necrosis. At a dose of 500 mg/kg BW there was no difference with the comparison control group which meant that the extract of the kasturi mango leaf had the same effect as the comparison group.
