Abstract

Mangifera indica leaves contain mangiferin compounds which are the main flavonoid compounds in the genus Mangifera. Mangiferin is known to have many functions including as an antioxidant which plays a role in preventing degenerative diseases. Mango leaf extract was obtained by maceration using 70% ethanol solvent because the nature of ethanol is safer than methanol which has toxic properties (Tiwari, 2011). This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of mango leaves (Mangifera indica L.) using the DPPH (1,1 dyphenyl-2-pikrilhidrazil) method with routine as a comparison. Data is processed using linear regression equations to obtain IC50 values (50% effective concentration to capture DPPH radicals). The IC50 value of the Arumanis variety of mangoes (Mangifera indica L.) leaves has antioxidant activity through the DPPH method of 13.6718 ± 0.003 ppm, including the strong antioxidants. These results are still under the research conducted by Pamungkas (2017) about the antioxidant activity of the methanolic extract of the leaves of the gadung (arumanis) mango which has an IC50 of 3.263 ± 0.009 ppm.
