Abstract

Mangosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana L) has antinflammatory activity. Mangosteen peel extract can be made into pharmaceutical preparations, namely gel, the advantages of gel preparations are not easly sticly, easly to apply, easy to wash and do not leave a layer of oil on the skin The purpose of this research is to make mangosteen peel extract gel preparations with variations of gelling agent CMC-Na and tragacanth and to know the effect of variations in the base of CMC-Na and gelling agent on the test of the physical quality of gel mangosteen peel extract. The production of mangosteen peel extract gel in this study used 2 grams of mangosteen peel extract with different variations of gelling agent CMC-Na and tragacanth, namely formula 1 (CMC-Na 1 gram), formula 2 (CMC-Na 0,5 gram and tragakan 0,5 gram), formula 3 (tragakan 1 gram). After that the gel in the physical quality test which includes: organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, viscosity test, scattering power test and sticky power test were observed for three weeks. Data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA followed by the Tukey test and stability testing using the independent T-test method with a confidence level of 95%.Keywords: gel, mangosteen peel extract, CMC-Na, tragacanth. The results showed that mangosteen peel extract (Garcinia mangostana L) with variations of the gelling agent CMC-Na and tragacanth did not affect the physical quality of gel preparations thus providing good physical quality of the mangosten peel extract gel.
