Abstract
Staphylococcus epidermidis is a bacterium that plays a role in the formation of acne. One of the plants that has been scientifically tested to act as an antibacterial is red betel leaf (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) which contains complex natural compounds that can inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause acne. The purpose of this study was to make a red betel leaf extract peel-off gel preparation that can produce good physical quality and stability and provide an antibacterial effect. The red betel leaf extract peel-off gel mask was made in five formulas with varying concentrations of gelatin and HPMC. Tests for physical properties and stability of dosage were carried out on all formulas to determine the best quality formula and tested antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228 bacteria. The results showed that formulas II to V had good physical quality while formula III had the best stability. All red betel leaf extract peel-off gel formulas have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis, the inhibitory diameter of formula I to V is 20.45 cm; 19.65 cm; 19.32 cm; 15.44 cm; 13.27 cm. Formula III is the best formula among the five formulas because it has the best physical quality, stability and has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228.
