Abstract
Depression is an emotional and mental disorders caused by abnormal levels of monoamine. Noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) as a potential antidepressant that can regulate the use of monoamine neurotransmitters in the brain. The purpose of this study determined the effect of ethanol extract of noni and effective dose for lowering immobility time (IT) and blood sugar levels in mice induced by forced swim test (FST). Depression was induced by FST methode. The study was used 25 male white mice were divided into 5 groups, consisting of a negative control (CMC Na), positive (amitriptyline), ethanol extract of noni doses of 25, 50, 100 mg / kg. All groups over 14 days induced depression with FST methods and treated over the next 14 days. Day 29 measured IT and blood sugar levels in mice. IT measurement data and blood sugar levels were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality know, was followed by one way ANOVA. The results has showed that ethanol extract of Noni fruit can reduce IT respectively by 39,2, 62,1, 74,1%. The study also showed a decrease in blood sugar levels in a row to 30,0, 34,4, 45,0% in male mice induced FST. A dose of 100 mg / kg showed a decrease in IT and blood sugar levels are most effective.
