Abstract

Depression is a deeply felt event that occurs after a dramatic or occurring event occurs. This study discusses the effects of antidepressants from bidara leaf extract. Bidara leaf powder was extracted using maceration method with 70% ethanol. 25 male white mice (Mus musculus) were divided into 5 groups, namely 1% CMC negative control, amitriptyline 0.0324 mg / 20 g positive control of mice mice, bidara leaf ethanol extract dose 0.52 mg / 20 gram BB mice; 1.04 mg / 20 gram BB mice and 1.56 mg / 20 grams BB mice. knowing the effective dose of bidara leaf extract with the forced swimming test method in terms of immobility time. The forced swimming test method has been widely used for the development of antidepressant drugs. Immobility data obtained were analyzed by ANOVA test, then LSD test was used to determine differences between groups The results showed that bidara leaf extract dose dose 0.52 mg / 20 gram BB mice; 1.04 mg / 20 gram BB mice and 1.56 mg / 20 gram BB mice and have an antidepressant effect. The dose of extract of 1.56 mg / 20 gram BB mice is equivalent to the positive control, indicating that the extract dose of 1.56 mg / 20 gram BB mice has the most effective antidepressant activity. Alkaloid compounds and flavonoids contained in bidara leaves are thought to have an antidepressant effect. Keywords : Antidepressant, forced swimming test, bidara leaf
