Abstract

One of the types of cosmetic or decorative cosmetics preparations is eye shadow containing the color pigment applied to the eyelid. The synthetic dyes of Rhodamin B can irritate the respiratory tract and also be carcinogenic or spur the growth of cancer cells if used continuously. This research aims to determine the presence of synthetic Rhodamin dyes in the eye shadow circulating in the city of Magetan with the method of TLC and know the degree of the UV-VIS spectrophotometry method. The Eye shadow used in this study was the eye shadow circulating in the city of Magetan. Research conducted using TLC method with the motion phase of N-butanol: Ethyl acetate: Ammonia 25% with a ratio of 20:55:25 V/V/V, and silent phase of silica gel GF 254. The determination of the rate is done by the UV-VIS spectrophotometry method at 544 nm wavelengths. Thin layer chromatography test results show that eye shadow samples circulating in the city of Magetan positively contain Rhodamin B. The average rate of samples obtained is for K samples amounting to 0,1586% b/b; L amounted to 0,2777% b/b; M amounted to 0,4854% b/b. Keywords : Eyeshadow, Rhodamin B, TLC, Spectrophotometry
