Abstract

Citronella oil is an ingredient that has activity as a mosquito repellent. Emulgel is a topical preparation consisting of an emulsion preparation made in the form of a gel with the addition of the gelling agent. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in HPMC concentration as a gelling agent on the physical quality emulgel stability. This research was conducted by making emulgel with variations in the concentration of HPMC used were 2% (F1), 3% (F2), and 4% (F3). Physical quality evaluation carried out included organileptic testing, homogeneity, viscosity, adhesion, dispersion, pH, emulsion type, and stability test. The statistical analysis used was ANOVA with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the difference in HPMC concentration could affect the physical quality of the emulsions as seen from viscosity, adhesion, and dispersion. Based on the results of testing carried out on all three formulas with 4% HPMC concentration had good physical quality. Keywords: anti-mosquito, citronella oil emulgel, HPMC, physical quality
