Abstract

Lactagogum is a drug that is used to increase or expedite the production of milk. Breast milk contains nutrients such as protein, fat and carbohydrates. Fennel (Feniculum vulgare Mill) are plants that contain protein, can be used as lactagogum. This study aims to determine the lactagogum activity and effective dose of ethanol extract of fennel leaves dan stems on protein levels of breastfeeding mice milk. The test animals in this study were breastfeeding, divided into 6 groups. Group I as normal control, II as a negative control (CMC Naa 0,5%), III as a positive control (Asifit 67,86 mg /kg bb), IV, V and VI as a test group of ethanol extract of leaves and fennel stems at doses 315 mg/kg bb; 630 mg/ kg bb, 945 mg/kg bb for 14 days. Measurements of protein levels of breastfeeding mice milk were carried out on days 2 dan 14 using the Biuret method. The results showed that the ethanol extract of fennel leaves and stems with variations in doses of 315 mg/ kg bb, 630 mg/kg bb, 945 mg/kg bb can increase protein levels of breastfeeding mice milk. Dose 630 mg/kg bb is the most effective dose to increase protein levels with the value of the day 2 by 18,5 µg/mL and day 14 by 8,97 µg/mL. The 630 mg/ kg bb dose group had value aquivalent to the positive control group (Asifit). Keyword : Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mil), Nursing mice, Lactagogum, Protein content.
