Abstract

Red Betel (Piper crocatum Ruiz and Pav) is a plant that contains flavonoids which are empirically believed to be stamina enhancers. The purpose of this research is to know the tonic effect and the effective dose of red betel leaf extract that can provide a tonic effect on male white swiss mice. The tonic test conducted with natatory exhaustion method by calculating the difference in fatigue time of mice before being treated (To) and after being treated (T1). Twenty-five mice divided into five groups that each group consisted five mice. Group I (nomal control) that is CMC Na 0,5%, group II (positive control) that is caffeine 13 mg/kgBB, group III is red betel leaf extract dose 35mg/kgBB, group IV is red betel leaf extract dose 70 mg/kgBB, group V is red betle leaf extract dose 140 mg/kgBB. The results showed that the ethanol extract of red betel leaf has a tonic effect on male white swiss mice with an effective dose of 70 mg / kgBB of mice.
