Abstract

Diabetes mellitus occurs when glucose levels increase beyond the normal limit, can be caused by lack of insulin both relative or absolute. Diabetes mellitus cannot be cured and lifelong treatment, so many patients are saturated and not obedient. One of effort to improve compliance is the provision of counseling by pharmacists, so that it can affect the understanding and knowledge of patients against the disease suffered. This study aims to determine the effect of counseling and the influence of sociodemography on adherence to type 2 diabetes mellitus outpatients at Puskesmas Ngemplak Kabupaten Boyolali. This research is a quasi-experimental method with a prospective approach and a control group design with pretest-posttest design. The number of patients in this study were 81 patients who were divided into control groups and counseling groups. This research was conducted in February-April 2019. Compliance was measured using the MMAS-8 questionnaire. The results of the study were analyzed using wilcoxon test and chi square test. The results showed that there was an effect of giving counseling to adherence 0,000 (<0,05) and there was an influence of sociodemography on adherence that is on educational characteristics of 0,000 (<0,05) in the control group and 0,031 (<0,05) in the counseling treatment group .
