Abstract

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is Gram-negatif bacterium that causes nosocomial infections and one of the causes of urinary tract infections which is the second most common infection after respiratory tract infection. The shoe flower plant (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.) is a shrub plant that contains various compounds such as flavonoid, tannin, alkaloid, terpenoid / steroid and saponin which have antibacterial properties. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibitory power of extract and fraction of shoe flower on the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria, to find out the most active fraction and determine the MIC and MKC from the most active fractions. This study uses three concentrations namely 10%, 20% and 40%. Antibacterial activity testing uses the disk / disk diffusion method and the dilution method. Shoe Flower were extracted using 70% ethanol and fractionated using three solvents with different polarity. The antibacterial activity of shoe flower showed extracts and all three fractions had antibacterial activity. Ethyl acetate 40% fraction is the fraction which has the best activity with inhibitory zone diameter of 17.60 ± 1.15 and has a Minimum Killer Concentration (MKC) value of 10%. .
