Abstract

Facial masks are beauty masks in the form of gel, paste and powder that are applied to clean and tighten the skin, especially facial skin. The existence of a microorganism in cosmetics can cause an infection to the user if there is direct contact with the skin. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the outstanding facial mask products meet the requirements based on the 2014 Food and Drug Administration (BPOM). This test uses 4 facial mask samples and there are 5 kinds of microbiological testing requirements, namely the Standard Plate Count method for calculating the Total Plate Number (ALT) using Nutrient Agar (NA) media and the Number of Yeast Molds using Dichloran Rose Bengal Chloramphenicol (DRBC) media, Identification of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus used Vogel Johnson Agar (VJA) media, followed by Gram staining, catalase test, and coagulase test. Identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa using Pseudomonas Selective Agar (PSA) followed by biochemical tests. Identification of Candida albicans using Sabaroud Glucosa Agar (SGA) media. Based on the results of the tests that have been carried out, it can be concluded from the four facial mask samples in 1 sample fulfilling the microbiological requirements while the 3 facial mask samples did not meet the microbiological requirements of cosmetic products based on the Republic of Indonesia Drug and Food Control Agency (BPOM) in 2014. Keywords: Facial Mask, Microbiological Test.
