Abstract

An inflammatory was a response to tissue damage due to various adverse stimuli both chemical and mechanical stimuli, infection and foreign substances such as bacterial and viruses. Previous studies have shown that ethanol extract of the Impetiens balsamina L. stem has anti-inflammatory activity. This study aimed to scientifically prove the activity of anti-inflammatory of Impetiens balsamina L. stem ethanol extract and affective doses as anti-inflammatory. This study used carrageenan induced rats paw edema. The methode animal test were fasted for 8 hours, were divided randomly into 7 groups then measured paw volume. Each group were successived by CMC 0,5%, 4,5 mg of diclofenac sodium/kg bw, 0,36 mg of methylprednisolone/kg bw, ethanol extract of the Impetiens balsamina L. stem with doses 125 mg/kg bw, 250 mg/kg bw, 500 mg/kg bw and normal group whitout treatment. Rats were left for 1 hour then induced carrageenan. Paw edema was measured on 0,5; 1; 2; 3; 4; 5; and 24th hour after carrageenan induction. From edema volume data can calculated AUC to calculated the percentage anti-inflammatory. The results showed that ethanol extract of the Impetiens balsamina L. stem was thought to have anti-inflammatory activity, is flavonoid, tannin, saponin and steroid. The results of measurement of paw edema showed ethanol extract of the Impetiens balsamina L. stem has anti-inflammatory effect that is doses 125, 250, 500 mg/bw and percent anti-inflammatory of 33,39 %, 39,74 % and 40,20 %.
