Abstract

Acute bronchitis is an infectious disease in the lower respiratory tract, which increases in every year. This disease requires antibiotic therapy. Inappropriate use of antibiotics can cause side effects. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pattern of antibiotic use and the rationality of antibiotic use in bronchitis at Inpatient Installation of Dr. Moewardi Hospital in 2016 and 2017 with the Hospital Formulary and Ministry of Health Guideline in 2005 with indicators of rigth indication, the right drug, the right patient, and right dose. The research was descriptive study with data collection retrospectively. Sampling use purposive sampling technique based on predetermined criteria. Data collection research use medical record data. The analysis used was descriptive analysis to analyze each variable of the research results. The results showed that the types of antibiotics used were penicillin (amoxicillin), cotrimosazole, quinolone (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin), cephalosporin (ceftriaxon), macrolide (azithromycin), aminoglycoside (gentamicin). Suitability of antibiotics used in bronchitis patients at Inpatient Installation of dr. Moewardi Hospital based on Hospital Formulary was 100%. Whereas the suitability of antibiotic use based on Ministry of Health Guideline 2005 with indicators of right indication was 100%, right drug was 85.29%, right patient was 100%) and right dose was 67.65%.
