Abstract
Kitolod leaves (Isotoma longiflora L.) are empirically used as traditional medicine. Therefore, it is necessary to research the toxicity to know the safety of ethanol extract of kitolod leaf. So that can be produced a traditional medicine that can be accounted for its use scientifically. The purpose of this study was to investigate the toxic effects, clinical symptoms and acute toxicity categories of ethanol extract of kitolod leaves on female white mice. The extract obtained was tested for its acute toxicity invivo using OECD method with macropathology and behavioral parameters in white female mice. Tests were performed on mice as many as 30 individuals divided into 6 groups, ie normal group and treatment group given ethanol extract of kitolod leaves dosage 5, 50, 300, 2000 and 5000 mg / kgbb administered orally only one feeding at the beginning of study mass. 24 hours observation included toxic and death symptoms, followed by 14 days including weight, organ weight and macropathology. No toxic symptoms were observed at all doses, giving kitolod leaf extract did not cause death in the test animals and had an effect on acute toxicity parameters. The conclusion of kitolod leaf extract was included in the low toxicity category with LD50 >5000 mg / kgbb. Keywords: acute toxicity, ethanol extract, kitolod leaf.
