Abstract

Turmeric (Curcuma domestica) is a plant rich in benefits, it can be used in both fresh and processed form in powder form. Storage in a condition that is not well controlled will cause the presence of microorganisms, such as xerophilic mushrooms. Xerofilic mushroom is a fungus that is able to grow in dry products or low moisture content can produce mycotoxins that can cause mythotoxicosis in humans and animals. The study used five samples of turmeric powder in the traditional South Central Timor District Market, East Nusa Tenggara. Performed dilution of samples 10-1 to 10-4 and inoculated into the media for the Dichloran Glycerol 18 (DG18) using a sprinkling method, then incubated at room temperature for 5-7 days. The observed observation is macroscopic by observing the shape of the colony, the upper surface color and the bottom surface color. A microscopic observation of the use of Lactophenol Cotton Blue so that the spores can be seen clearly. The test results showed that the five samples of turmeric powder (Curcuma domestica) were examined all contaminated by xerophilic fungi. And there are seven species of xerophilic mushrooms that are found to be Aspergillus Niger, Aspergillus penicilloides, Aspergillus tamarii, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Eurotium herbariorum, Eurotium Amstelodami, Eurotium chevalieri.
