Abstract
Beluntas (Pluchea indica L.) is a plant that belongs to the herbaceous family Asteraceae which contains essential oils. Beluntas is often used as a traditional medicine to eliminate body odor and bad breath, overcome poor appetite, overcome digestive disorder in children, relieve pain in rheumatism, bone pain and lumbago, reduce fever, and overcome irreguler vaginal discharge and menstruation. The purpose of this study was to analyze the essential oils of beluntas leaves with variations of fresh leaves and dried leaves by GC-MS, TLC and physicochemical analysis of essential oils to determine the difference and quality of the essential oils of beluntas leaves so that their use could be developed. Isolation essential oil of fresh and dried beluntas leaves with water and steam distillation method with clavenger pipe. Physicochemical characteristics analysis was carried out including organoleptic tests including color, shape, taste and aroma, solubility in alcohol test and refractive index, while for compound component analysis carried out by TLC and GC-MS tests. The results showed that the characteristics of essential oils from fresh beluntas leaves had a lower yield at 0.02% and 0.13% for dry beluntas leaf. The essential oil produced is yellow with a distinctive odor and dissolves in ethanol 96% 1: 3 and the refractive index value is 1.4879 for fresh beluntas leaf oil and 1: 5 for dry beluntas leaf oil with a refractive index of 1.4875. Essential oils of beluntas leaves do not contain Eugenol. The main compound components of fresh and dried beluntas leaf essential oil from GC-MS has 10 peak which the results from the biggest wide areas are TETRACYCLO [6.3.2.0E2,5.0E1,8] TRIDECAN-9-OL, 4,4-DIMETHY.
