Abstract

A burns is a damage or loss of tissue due to contact with a source that has a high temperature. Water pumpkin (Lagenaria siceraria) can be used as an alternative healing burns because it has several ingredients, namely flavonoids and saponins. The purpose of this research is to know the ethanol extract of pumpkin water (Lagenaria siceraria) can prove the activity of pumpkin fruit water, can be formulated in a good emulgel preparation form and to know the effectiveness of the preparation as an anti-burn. The ethanol extract of water pumpkin is made by maceration method. The making of pumpkin fruit extract emulgel was divided into 3 concentrations, 7%, 12% and 17%. Burn wound healing activities were carried out on the backs of New Zealand rabbits and physical quality tests were carried out: organoleptic, dispersal, adhesion, viscosity, pH, homogeneity, protection and stability tests. The percentage healing results were statistically analyzed Results of this study indicate that all concentrations of emulgel formula in ethanol extracts of pumpkin fruit have effect as burn healing. Emulgel formula with concentration 17% shows effective results in healing burns almost equivalent to positive control that is equal to 89.42%.
