Abstract
The flowers of alamanda (Allamanda cathartica L.) is one of the plants that has many properties in traditional medicine such as skin disease, dysentery, and laxative. This research aims to determine the antifungal activity of petroleum eter fraction, chloroform, and water from ethanolic extract flowers of alamanda, to find out the most active fraction, and to know the Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations and Minimum Fungicidal Concentrations of the most active fraction of Candida albicans ATCC 10231. The Flowers of alamanda (Allamanda cathartica L.) extracted by maceration method with ethanol solvent 70%. The estracts obtained were fractionation with petroleum eter, chloroform, and water solvents. Result of extraction and fractionation tested antifungal activity against Candida albicans ATCC 10231 with diffusion method at concentrations of 4; 2; 1% and method dilution at concentrations of 4; 2; 1; 0,5; 0,25 and 0,125%. Positive control used fluconazole 0,2% and negative control used DMSO 5%. The identification of chemical content is done by color reagent and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). Diffusion results were analyzed with statistical test Analysis Of Varians (ANOVA) Two Way. The result of the study showed ethanol extract 70%, petroleum eter fraction, chloroform fraction, and water fraction flowers of alamanda has antifungal activity against Candida albicans ATCC 10231. Water fraction with a concentration of 4% was the most active fraction with barrier diameter of 18,33 mm and a Minimum Fungicidal Concentration is 0,5% against Candida albicans ATCC 10231.
