Abstract
Katuk leaves (Sauropus androgynus (L). Merr.) Have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis. Chemical compounds in katuk leaves which have antibacterial activity are flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and saponins. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability and effectiveness of katuk leaf extract ointment preparations in healing acne due to S.epidermidis Extraction in this research uses maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The preparation of katuk leaf extract ointment with a concentration of 20% in different base variations, namely formula I containing PEG 400 and 4000 bases with a ratio of 24:56, formula II containing PEG 400 and 4000 bases with a ratio of 40:40, formula III containing PEG 400 bases and 4000 with a ratio of 56:24, then physical quality was tested. The healing time is done by observing pimples on the rabbit's back after the katuk leaf ointment, marked by the loss of pimples and pus. The results showed the katuk leaf extract ointment had the most effective anti-acne activity against S.epidermidis was formula III. The effect of ointment base concentration on the ointment of katuk leaf extract (Sauropus androgynous (L) Merr.) Tested in vivo against rabbit test animals is that the greater the amount of PEG 4000 compared to PEG 400, the active substance from the ointment will be more difficult to release the active substance. acne healing time will be longer.
