Abstract
Fennel fruit (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) is a plant that can be used as an antibacterial and antifungal agent. This study aims to determine the antifungal activity of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water fractions from fennel ethanol extracts, determine the most active fractions, and determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and the Minimum Kill Concentration (KBM) of the most active fraction of fennel fruit against Candida albicans ATCC 10231. The ethanol extract of fennel fruit was obtained by maceration using 70% ethanol solvent then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvents. Antifungal activity test of the extract and all fractions using the diffusion method at concentrations of 5, 10, and 20% to determine the most active fraction. The most active fraction was tested by dilution to determine the MIC and KBM values by using certain concentrations. Statistical analysis uses ANOVA twoway to determine whether there are significant differences between test preparations. The results showed that the extract and all fractions of fennel fruit had antifungal activity. The diameter in diffusion test resulted in inhibition zone diameter with a concentration of 20% extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water was 16, 95; 12.55; 18.92; and 22.33 mm. The water fraction with a concentration of 20% is the most active fraction with an inhibition diameter of 22.33 mm with a KBM value of 2.5%.
