Abstract

The inflammatory response is characterized by red color due to excessive blood flow to the injured area, heat which is an inflammatory response on the surface of the body and pain due to tissue suppression due to edema. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-inflammatory effects of red betel leaves ethanol extract, ability of anti-inflammatory activity and determine its safety in the gastrum. Red betel leaves which has been made of fine powder extracted by remaseration method with 96 % ethanol testing was carried out on 25 rats divided into 5 treatment groups consist of negative control (CMC-Na), normal control, positive control (Na. Diclofenac), Red betel leaves dose of 50 and 100 mg / kg bw. The anti-inflammatory test method was extract carried out using 1% carrageenan induction on the rat's subplantar then calculated volume of the edema, AUC value and % inflammation. Drug / extract administration was made for 7 days to test the safety on gastrum, ulcer index and histology of the gastrum of the rat. The data obtained were analyzed using the Shapiro Wilk and Anova tests. The results showed that ethanol extract of red betel leaves dose of 50 mg / kg bw and 100 mg / kg bw have anti-inflammatory activity. Doses of 50 mg / kb bw have better anti-inflammatory activity than doses of 100 mg / kg bw Macroscopic and microscopic examination doses of 50 and 100 mg / kb bw of red betel leaves extract showed safety for the rat's gastrum.
