Abstract
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in developing countries in women. Lime peel (C. aurantifolia) contains essential oil and hesperidin which is known to have an inhibitory effect proliferation cancer cells. The aims of this study was to identify cytotoxic activity of extract and fraction lime peel (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) against breast cancer cells MCF-7. The method used is a method Microtetrazolium (MTT) assay. Principle test MTT is measure cellular activity of enzymes mitokondria reduktase in mitochondria for reducing salt Methylthiazol Tetrazolium (MTT). The variation of concentration used is 1000; 500; 250; 125; 62.5; 31.25; 15.625 μg/ml. The results of this study showed extract and fraction lime peel has cytotoxic activity against breast cancer cells MCF-7 with value IC50 extract 306.53 μg/ml, nheksana fraction 66,97 μg/ml, ethyl acetate fraction 199,91 μg/ml, and water fraction 287.40 μg/ml. Extract and fraction hasn’t cytotoxic activity against vero cell with selectivity index value 1.943 x 103, n-heksana fraction 39,50; ethyl acetate fraction 42.59; and water fraction 75.25. The group compounds who have cytotoxic activity are essential oil and flavonoid compounds. Extract and fraction lime peel has the potential to be developed as a chemopreventive agent.
