Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the bacteria that often causes infection. Combination is the aim in the development of medicinal plants that a combination of active components has a synergistic effect. The aim of this study to investigate the antibacterial activity and interaction pattern of the combination of betel leaves (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) and hearthleaf maderavine (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) extract against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Extraction using remaseration method with ethanol solvent. Antibacterial activity test was obtained dilution method to showed MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) of single extract then the combination both of the extract with (1:1); (1:2); (2:1) was obtained by diffusion method and analyzed using One Way ANOVA. Paper tape method to see the interaction pattern of the most active combination. Identification of compounds from red betel leaves extract containing flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, steroids, dan essential oils, then hearthleaf maderavine extract containing flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, dan steroids. The test results of antibacterial activity of a combination of red betel leaves and hearthleaf maderavine extract has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with (1: 1); (1: 2) and (2: 1). The most active ratio of red betel leaves and heartleaf maderavine was 1: 2 at 25% : 25,6% concentration. The pattern of interaction is synergism.
