Abstract
The liver is a very vital organ for the detoxification system and closely interrelated to various metabolic systems in the body. The liver is susceptible to disease which may change the major function of the organ. One of the liver disorders is hepatic cirrhosis more often known as liver stiffness. Hepatic cirrhosis is a chronic liver disease that occurs due to necrosis of liver cells developing into scar tissue. This condition causes liver inability to store glucose in the form of glycogen. So that the glucose is directly converted to the whole body and insulin fails to absorb glucose into the liver. This condition leads the patient to develop hyperglycemia. The aim of this study is to find out whether there is an elevation of random glucose levels in patients with hepatic cirrhosis. This scientific paper is compiled based on the result of random glucose test to 38 samples taken from patients with hepatic cirrhosis in regional public hospital RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta and supported by published literature. The examination was conducted in Setia Budi University’s second laboratory (Clinical chemistry). Random glucose levels were examined using “GOD-PAP”: enzymatic photometric test Method. The result of random glucose levels test to 38 samples indicated 14 samples (37%) developed elevated random glucose levels, and 24 samples (63%) developed normal random glucose levels.
