Abstract
Bleeding is a process of blood discharge from blood vessel capillaries caused by damage of the skin epidermis. Through the hemostatic mechanism, the body is able to clog and improve the circulatory system to stop the bleeding. This study was conducted to determine the hemostatic activity of ethanolic extract of purslane herbs extracted with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvent on the parameters of bleeding time, blood clotting time, and platelet count. A total of 25 male white mice were divided into 5 groups as negative control (CMC Na), positive control (Tranexamic Acid 65 mg/kg bw), n-hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract, and extract of purslane herbs at the dose 600 mg/kg bw. Heparin is used as an induction given subcutaneously for 5 days at the dose of 0.5 ml/kg bw. Data were analyzed used One Way ANOVA test and parametric test of Tukey HSD. The results showed that the administration of n-hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract, and water extract of purslane herb at the dose 600 mg/kg bw had decreased of bleeding time and blood clotting time comparable with positive control (Tranexamic Acid 65 mg/kg bw). The administration of n-hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract, and water extract of purslane herbs with dose of 600 mg/kg bw also showed an increase the platelet count.
