Abstract
Ashitaba leaves are known to have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Direct use is less effective and impractical, resulting in spray gel. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of spray gel ethanol extract of ashitaba leaves against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 infection in vivo. Ashitaba leaves were extracted with a maceration method for 5 days with 70% ethanol solvent. The ethanol extract of ashitaba leaves was formulated into 3 formulas with the difference with concentrations of 0.1%, 0.5% and 1%. Then tested the physical quality and stability. An antibacterial test of spray gel by observing the time of infection healing based on loss of erythema, pus and decreasing the number of bacterial colonies performed using Plate Count method. The data obtained were processed with two way statistical Analysis of Variance method. Ashitaba leaves ethanol extract can be prepared spray gel preparations with good physical quality and good stability at concentrations of 0.1% and 0.5%. The result of antibacterial activity of spray gel of ethanol extract of ashitaba leaves with various concentrations has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 infected on rabbit. Based on Kolmogorov Smirnov test, the significance of 0.138> 0.05, the spray gel ethanol extract of ashitaba leaves with 1% concentration has the most optimum healing effect on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 bacteria infected on rabbits.
