Abstract

Rhizome Bengle (Zingiber purpureum Roxb) empirically efficacious as treatment for fever. The purpose of this study is to prove antipyretic effect of ethanol extract of rhizome Bengle against white male rats induced with DTP-HBHib vaccine. This research used 25 white male rats which is divided into 5 groups of negative control (CMC Na dose of 5 ml / kg), positive control (Paracetamol 45 mg / kg) and the group of ethanol extract of rhizome Bengle (doses of 37, 5 mg, 75 mg, and 150 mg / kg). Fever of rats induced by using DTP-HB-Hib vaccine with dose 1 ml / kg intramuscularly. The body temperature is measured using a digital rectal thermometer, the temperature was measured every 30 minutes to 120 minutes after oral administration, and the data obtained T0, Tdemam and body temperature measurements every time. The data is used to calculate AUC and average of AUC were analyzed by Shapiro-Wilk test and One way ANOVA test. The results showed the chemical constituents in ethanol extract of rhizome Bengle suspected to have antipyretic effect is class of flavonoid compounds (flavonols and Auron), essential oils, alkaloids, tannins, triterpenoids, and saponins. The measurement results of body temperature showed the ethanol extract of the rhizome bengle have the most effective antipyretic effect with dose 150 mg / kg compared to the negative control CMC Na.
