Abstract

Handbody lotion is a semi-solid preparation for use on external skin. The use of nipagin as a preservative in the handbody lotion is regulated in Peraturan Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan Nomor 23 tahun 2019 tentang Persyaratan Teknis Bahan Kosmetika no more than 0.4%. The purpose of research to find out the level of nipagin in Handbody lotion, the place in one of Supermarket in Banjarsari, Surakarta. The samples used were 5 brands A; B; C; D; E with sample preparation using liquid-liquid extraction. This study harnessed a qualitative test using Diniges reagent and TLC method. The results showed that all sampel contained nipagin wich was characterized by a constant red solution and the same elution on the TLC plate. Quantitative test was performed using UV Spectrophotometry read at a wavelength of 258 nm. The results appeared the existence of nipagin preservatives with nipagin levels in samples handbody lotion the place in one of Supermarket in Banjarsari Surakarta were ratio 0.10%; 0.15%; 0.11%; 0.07%; 0.10%, respectively. According to Peraturan Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan Nomor 23 Tahun 2019 tentang Persyaratan Teknis Bahan Kosmetika confirmed that the nipagin levels in all samples did not exceed this stipulated requirements at 0,4% Keywords: Liquid-liquid Extraction, Handbody Lotion, Nipagin, Diniges Reagents, TLC, UV Spectrophotometry
