Abstract

Banana is one of Indonesia's native plants which contains flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and tannins. Part of the banana plant has many benefits, one of which is antibacterial. Acne which is caused by several bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermidis, Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, has different effects on the skin. E. faecalis bacteria are more prevalent in post-root canal tooth infections than in primary infections. This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolite compounds from Ambon banana plant and to determine the antibacterial activity of Ambon banana plant and to determine the characteristics of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. Ambon banana plant species specifications are determined through plant determination. Extraction using maceration with 96% ethanol solvent. Ethanol free test uses a solution of CH3COOH and H2SO4p. Determination of water content using the Bidwell-Sterling method. Phytochemical screening of flavonoid compounds, tannins, saponins, and alkaloids by the tube method. Identification of S. epidermidis bacteria with MCA media, gram staining and biochemical tests. Antibacterial testing of Ambon banana leaf sheath extract against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Propionibacterium acnes, and Enterococcus faecalis bacteria, namely through a literature study. The results of ethanol extract of ambon banana leaf obtained 9,331%. The extract was free of ethanol which contained no odor of ester, the water content of the extract was 13.33%, the result of phytochemical screening that contained the composition of flavonoids, saponins, tannins and alkaloids. The bacterium S. epidemidis ATCC 12228 is unable to ferment mannitol. Gram positive, round, clustered, positive catalase and negative coagulase. Based on studies of ethanol extracts Ambon Ambon banana leaf fronds have antibacterial activity against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Propionibacterium acnes and Enterococcus faecalis.
