Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic degenerative disease which cannot be cured. However, the blood glucose level can be controlled. High blood glucose level will lead to a change in the structure of kidney, and this may cause diabetic nephropathy. It can be detected by examining creatinine level. The examination of creatinine level in the blood is one of parameters for measuring the function of kidney due to the concentration in plasma and the excretion in urine in 24 hours. This study aims at investigating the relationship between blood glucose level and creatinine level in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This belongs to experimental research with cross-sectional design. A total of 33 people were taken as samples using purposive sampling technique. Data were later analyzed using Spearman Rank correlation test. The results of normality test using Shapiro Wilk test indicate that data are not normally distributed; and therefore, it is followed with Spearman Rank test. The results of Spearman Rank test show r value of 0.-221 and p value or the significance level of 0.217 > 0.005, meaning that there is no significant relationship between blood glucose level and creatinine level in patients with type 2 DM. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no significant correlation between blood glucose level and creatinine level. Keywords: glucose level, creatinine level, type 2 DM.
