Abstract

Basil leaves have an anti-inflammatory flavonoids content that can relieve pain in case of bleeding or swelling in the wound. Some studies have shown that the sitral has anti-inflammatory activity. Basil's essential oils also have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, where basil leaf essential oil can be utilized for wound treatment, as Staphylococcus aureus bacteria are often found in injured skin tissues. In this study aims to know that the essential oil basil leaves can be made in the form of a gel dosage in good physical quality, to know that the basil leaves essential oil preparations have the potential for wound healing and to know if the variation of Karbopol concentration as gelling agent affects physical properties and physical stability. The evaluation of the gel dosage includes organolpetic test, homogeneity test, pH, viscosity, adhesiveness, and coverage. The results of the literature study showed that the basil leaf essential oil can be made in the form of a gel dosage with good physical quality, variation of the concentration of Karbopol as gelling agent affects the physical properties and physical stability and essential oil basil leaves can be potentially as a wound healing.
