Abstract
Hyperglycemia is a condition when blood glucose levels increase beyond their normal limits. Starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) are used as an alternative in healing hyperglycemia wounds because they contain saponins, flavonoids, and tannins. The purpose of this study was to determine the ethanol extract of the leaves of starfruit leaves as a cure for hyperglycemia wounds. Ethanol extract of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) was made in 3 concentrations of 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5%. Wound healing tests were carried out using 5 hyperglycemia-induced rabbits on the first day after fasting blood sugar levels were measured. The back of the rabbit is divided into 5 areas which are made of 2 cm long cuts with a depth of 0.3 cm. The gel was applied twice a day according to the group consisting of a negative control group, a positive control group, and 3 treatment groups for 14 days. The results of the measurement of percent wound healing were statistically analyzed one way ANOVA. The results of this study indicate that all concentrations of ethanol extract of starfruit leaf extract gel meet good physical quality and have effectiveness as a cure for hyperglycemia wounds. Gel formula with a concentration of 10% shows effective results in healing hyperglycemia wounds comparable to positive control that is equal to 79%.
