Abstract

Red Ginger (Zingiber Officinale Var. Rubrum) is one of the traditional plants containing oleoresin and essential oils which is useful as a tonic. Black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and essential oils that are useful for tonic, refreshing the body and as a powerful medicine for men. This study uses a combination of red ginger and black pepper because it has the same efficacy, namely as a tonic. These two plants are made in the form of syrup preparations because they are easy to use and have a sweet taste that is liked by all members of the community. This study aims to determine whether the combination of red ginger and black pepper syrup is more effective than a single preparation as a tonic in white male mice Swiss Webster. The test animals were grouped into 7 groups and each group consisted of 5 Swiss Webster mice, namely: group I negative control (aquadest), group II positive control (caffeine), group III red ginger syrup (100%) dose 312 mg / kg BW , group IV black pepper syrup (100%) dose 312 mg / kg BW, group V syrup combination of red ginger and black pepper (75%: 25%) dose of red ginger 234 mg / kg BW and black pepper 78 mg / kg BW, group VI syrup combination of red ginger and black pepper (25%: 75%) dose of red ginger 78 mg / kg BW and black pepper 234 mg / kg BW, group VII syrup combination of red ginger and black pepper (50%: 50%) dose red ginger 156 mg / kg BW and black pepper 156 mg / kg BW. Mice were put into a water tank and observed signs of fatigue, the test animals did not show the reaction of the motion of the four legs, the tail stiffened and left his head under the water surface for 7 seconds. Tonicum effect data is data on the addition of fatigue time obtained from the difference in fatigue time after and before treatment. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that single black pepper syrup (FII) is more effective than combination syrup (FIII, FIV, and FV) because there is no significant difference. The results of the FII tonic effect test were 9.47 minutes while the FIII was 8.34 minutes; FIV of 10.33 minutes; and FV of 8.79 minutes. Keywords : Tonic, syrup, red ginger (Zingiber Officinale Var. Rubrum), black pepper (Piper nigrum L.)
