Abstract
Diabetes is one of the largest global health emergencies of the 21th century. Diabetic patiens often need to administered drugs for treatment of other coexisting disease. Therefore, the treatment have to be given simultaneously so there is the possibility of drug interactions. This study aims to determine the occurrence of drug interaction in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus of geriatric patients in the hospitalization service of Ir. Soekarno Sukoharjo Regional Public Hospital in 2017. The research was descriptive research, where the data were retrieved retrospectively. Data were collected by taking the data of 34 samples that met the criteria of research in the medical records of Ir. Soekarno Sukoharjo Regional Public Hospital in 2017. Data were analyzed descriptively based on Lexicomp Drug Interaction Checker. The results show that drug interaction is found in 30 patients (88,23%) with a total drug interaction occurrence of 147. The most frequent drug interaction is the interaction between metformin and ondansetron, which is 4 events (2,72%), the severity of the most frequent interaction is moderate, which is 114 interactions (77,55%). The most frequent mechanism is pharmacokinetic interaction, which is 55 cases (37,41%). Keywords : drug interaction, diabetes melitus, geriatric
