Abstract

Hypertension is the third biggest risk factor for premature death, congestive heart failure and cerbrovascular disease. This study aims to determine the pattern of prescribing antihypertensive drugs in the Internal Medicine Polyclinic of Brayat Minulya Hospital Surakarta and to determine the most widely prescribed antihypertensive drugs and to determine the suitability of prescribing antihypertensive drugs with the Hospital Formulary and JNC 8. This research is a descriptive non-experimental study with retrospective data collection. Sampling of 249 patients used the purposive sampling method according to the inclusion criteria including patients with a diagnosis of hypertension, with or without comorbidities and who had blood pressure measurement data at least twice at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic of Brayat Minulya Hospital, Surakarta, January - June 2019. Exclusion criteria includes hypertensive patients from incomplete medical record data and patients who have just been treated once. The results showed that the pattern of prescribing antihypertensive drugs in Internal Medicine Polyclinic at Brayat Minulya Hospital, Surakarta in the period January - June 2019, 60 patients (24.10%) received single antihypertensive drug therapy and 189 patients (75.90%) received combination antihypertensive drug therapy. . The most widely prescribed drug for single antihypertensive drug therapy and combination antihypertensive drug therapy was Amlodipine, namely 136 patients (27.09%). The drugs used in prescribing hypertensive patients are in accordance with JNC 8 and the Formulary of Brayat Minulya Hospital, Surakarta.
