Abstract
Bilirubin is a heme degradation product that mostly occurs from the decomposition of hemoglobin and other compounds such as myoglobin. This examination using one factor in reading the result that is sunlight exposure affecting the levels of bilirubin. The aim of this study is to find out the differences between bilirubin levels in fresh serum samples and serum exposed to sunlight. This Scientific Paper is compiled based on the results of bilirubin levels examination conducted in Setia Budi University’s Laboratory on 30 samples taken from some students of Medical Laboratory Technology Diploma Program of Setia Budi University, using two treatments and supported by the published literature. Bilirubin levels were examined using photometer with a direct bilirubin kit reagent and the samples were tested subsequently using statistical test to confirm the differences in these samples. The examination result of bilirubin levels on 30 samples indicated a reduction of direct bilirubin levels. Statistical test Paired sample T Test resulted p= 0,000, which indicates that there is significant difference between fresh serum and exposed serum. Keywords: Direct bilirubin, fresh serum, exposed serum, influence of sun exposure
