Abstract
Cancer is a disease in which cells will attack the surrounding tissue by dividing abnormally and uncontrolled. New tissue growth is a result of abnormal and continuous cell proliferation and has the ability to attack and damage other tissues. Cashew fruit contains flavonoids, tannins, and phenol compounds (anacardic acid, cardol and cardanol). The aims of this research is to investigate the cytotoxic activity of Anacardium sp on the study of various cancer cells cultures and to know class of compounds that contain in cashew fruit shell. This research started with extraction and fractination of cashew fruit shall. the method of this extraction is meceration method, while the fractination used liquid-liquid extraction method. The study of cytotoxic activity was carried out using literature review to know the cytotoxic activity of Anacardiun sp on various cancer cells cultures . The result showed that the extract of cashew fruit skin (Anacardium occidentale) contains flavonoid and phenolic compounds, n-hexsane fraction contains flavonoid compounds, ethyl acetate fraction contains flavonoid, tannin, and phenolic compounds, while water fraction dose not contain flavonoid, alkaloid, tannin, and phenolic compounds. The result of a literature review of cytotoxic activity showed that Anacardiun occidentale ethanol extract has the influence of concentrated variations on the cytotoxic activity of myeloma cells and fibroblast cells. The increase in cell death is proportional to the increase in extract concentration. Anacardium sp has cytotoxic activity against T47D cancer cell culture and leukemia cells with a concentration of 60 μg/mL. keywords: Anacardium sp, MTT Assay, cancer cell, cytotoxic
