Abstract

Myristicin is a naturally compound that found in the nutmeg essential oils, which has an alkyl benzene structure with a double bond at the end of the alkyl chain. The compound has biological activity. Alkyl benzene isomerization have been used as reaction in many multistep syntheses. . Isomerization reaction makes the double chain conjugated. This isomerization cause increase the stability, and it can makes longer absorbtion wave length of UV. From the structure of isomyristicine, it has allyl, phenyl, dan ether. It also makes longer absorbation wave length of UV. This study examines the optimization of myristicin isomerization using KOH as catalyst. Myristicin used were obtained from the purification of nutmeg essential oils. Optimization of myristicin isomerization is carried out by the reflux method with 5, 10, 15 and 20% of KOH in ethanol at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 hours. This research aimed to know that isomiristisin can formed by syntheses miristisin, how much concentration KOH of optimum reaction and how many long duration of optimum reaction, how much value of SPF. Reaction results at each catalyst concentration and time were analyzed using GC-Ms. GC-Ms spektra showed that myristicin reactant had 92.3 % area, the isomerization results showed three peaks at 29.4; 30.5 and 31.7 minutes of retention time that have same m/z which indicated are myristicin, cis-isomyristicin and trans-isomyristicin. Each KOH concentration at 1- 5 hours showed reduction of myristicin area, 5%, respectively 89.12; 88.67; 87.14; 83.06 and 81.14%. 10%, respectively 79.21; 76.57; 75.07; 67.49 and 64.1%. 15% respectively 61.97; 54.8; 48.83; 39.29 and 33.4%. 20% respectively 64.83; 13.54; 4.21 and at the fourth hour there is no myristicin % area. The optimum result is for 5 hours reaction by 20% KOH. The optimum reaction showed from increase the purity of isomyristicine and there’s no area of myristicine. Isomyristicine as a sunscreen give SPF 16,13. Keywords: : myristicin, isomyristicin, isomerization, KOH, SPF
